The theme of this class, threaded within each asana, is how best to explore and experience the crucial energy of ascension. The gravitational force and the anti-gravitational force. How do we access them, how much awareness do we have around them, how can we increase our sensitivity to these forces as we practice?
The teaching starts with a seated meditation and light sun salutations to open the body. It then moves into the theme of bringing a new edge of understanding to the forces at play through downward dogs, uttanasanas, handstands and a postural-shifting sequence of upward dogs, with and without blocks. Then, taking the teaching of Ascension further into 3 variations of headstand, some beautiful backbends, and ending with a soothing variation of shoulder stand: karnapidasana and a savasana with legs up against the wall.
